"Submerged" is a digital illustration I submitted to the University of Oregon 2020 Art in Isolation virtual art show. The work received the first place award.
"I have a fear of deep water. You never know what is lurking under. It's not so much a fear of monsters or sharks. But rather, I am scared of its vast emptiness and its unpredictability. It's the fear of being alone that gets to me. Living during a pandemic feels like being out at sea. Everything is uncertain. You feel like nobody can help you because no one knows what this virus is. I often feel overwhelmed at home. I want to be out there and help support my parents. But there is nothing I can do other than drown in guilt. Making art is a good way for me to escape. It makes me feel more productive and at least closer towards my goal to become an artist."
