Over the Summer of 2022, I got a chance to work as a content creator intern at GladRags, a local women-owned business based in Portland, OR. I have worked on variety of projects including product photography, illustrations, social media posts, store training videos, and many more. The highlights of my internship are the animations I got to make, and the creative freedom they have given me. I'd also like to say thank you to University of Oregon's Portland Internship Experience (PIE) and DucksRise program for making this possible.
Positive. Bright. Colorful. Friendly.
Glad Rags Video Intro Animation
Goal: Create an intro animation for Glad Rags' store training videos that closely follows Glad Rag's brand guideline and mission statements of positivity, inclusivity, and curiosity.
"We don't want blue blood"
One issue I was trying to solve was figuring out how to make the dripping blood not too scary but still representative of menstruation. I ended up using Glad Rags' brand reddish colors and rounded out the dripping shape. Immediately after, a bouncy menstrual cup enters the scene, showing that menstruation blood is friendly.
I also wanted to represent Glad Rags as an eco-conscious brand by including some natural elements into the intro. This part incorporates both photorealistic collage and line work in order to show that there many different ways you can be sustainable.
Glad Rags Reusables Education Video
"Disposable products add up!"
The client wanted a video that can be used several times on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram reels. They were looking for an educational video that shows how much disposable products can add up over a menstruator's lifetime. Meanwhile, a reusable product can help you save a lot of money and reduce waste.
I didn't want to exaggerate the amount of disposable waste, but I also want to show how the wastes add up over time. I decided to show the passing of time using a yearly calendar rather than showing a large pile of waste right from the beginning.
I represented both of Glad Rags main products, the menstrual cups and cloth pads, as cheerful and bubbly using bright colorful graphics.
Period Party Sticker Sheet
IT'S
PARTY
TIME
The sticker sheet are designed with Glad Rags' brand and values in mind. The target audience are for both Glad Rags customers and the general public.
Glad Rags Newsletter Signature Banner
Tracy and the Team
The client wanted to update the signature banner which used to only show Glad Rags' owner, Tracy. They wanted a banner that shows Tracy and the team. However, one challenge is trying to represent the team that could fluctuate and change over time.
I chose to draw an avatar of Tracy and include the uterus character which I have used many times in other projects. The character represents Glad Rags employees who are the behind the scene supporters of Glad Rags. The bicycle shows an eco-friendly transportation option which contains Glad Rags' main products. Trailing behind the bicycle is a banner with hand written note to add an approachable and personal impact.
Some Fun
I made a variation of the signature banner with different seasonal holidays. The festive banner adds to Glad Rags personality as a cheerful and positive brand.
Bloody Good News Headers
Bloody Good News is Glad Rags' monthly e-newsletter with both period and non-period related good news to brighten your day.
Some More Fun
Like the signature banner, I created variation of the Bloody Good News header with different holiday themes.
Cloth Pad Club Icon
A clearer message
Glad Rags' Cloth Pad Club is a monthly subscription service where a customer is delivered a cloth pad of their choice every month.
With the previous design, customers were unclear about the monthly shipping. I redesigned the icon so that the monthly subscription is more prominent and distinct from the regular non-subscription products. The circular text around the pads indicate the monthly delivery (and menstrual) cycle.
The pad names are depicted in different colors to distinguish colored cloth pads from organic cloth pads.

Value Kits Photoshoot
I also got to update the Value Kits photography and transformed the page on gladrags.com. For the project, I got to photograph and edit images so that they are brighter and more colorful.
Glad Rags GIFs
These GIFs and stickers are made for Glad Rags' GIPHY.com so that they can be used on social media posts
Social Media
I got to create social media contents for platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. I have made engaging reels and short videos. I have also photographed bright colorful images and wrote captions that suits Glad Rags positive personality.
Thank you Glad Rags team!!
