The Kalapuya Talking Stones are found throughout the Whilamut Natural Area in Alton Baker Park, Eugene, OR. They part of a project in collaboration with the Kalapuya elder and storyteller, Esther Stutzman, to honor the history of the Kalapuya land and its people. These stones are engraved with Kalapuya words associated with the Kalapuya territory and traditions. Ceremonies were performed to welcome each stone in order to honor the land where the stone sits. These drawings were made for my Eugene Monument Project for my art history course.
I biked to the Alton Baker Park and looked for these stones that are distributed around the area. I took photos of them, and came back home to draw them on Photoshop.
